Devon Beaver is a Passionate Activewear Designer

She strives to create purposeful, functional clothing that is fashionable and flattering- she designs with the goal of helping women feel confident and comfortable in their bodies. She endeavors to create clothing that fits and is flattering on a diverse group of bodies, of all shapes and sizes. She feels that activewear is one of the most personal aspects of fashion design, as it often exposes the wearer's insecurities. Finding ways to make those insecurities lessen is very important to her. When designing, she thinks about the way that the wearer will need to have the garment perform, whether that be yoga, running, lounge wear, or a multitude of things. 

She incorporates function, always mindful of safety and comfort when designing, while at the same time, striving to take activewear in new directions. She works frequently with color blocking, and finds herself inspired by the lines of architecture and nature, taking the twists, turns, and intricacies of the two and translating them to the body. 

Athletes are some of the most passionate people she knows, and being able to create clothing that assists and replicates that passion and drive is what drives her. Athletes live and breathe their sport- being able to create clothing that allows them to live their life, preventing injury, and excel at the sports that they love. She is continually looking at the way the body moves, the way muscles are used in sports, to find ways to design clothing that will aid the athlete. Creating activewear that allows women of all shapes and sizes to feel confident, to feel that they are able to strive for success without worrying that their clothing will prevent them from doing so is what drives her desire to design. 

Having focused on women’s activewear throughout College, designing for Adidas Baseball, Adidas Football, and Second Skin apparel while at Dick’s Sporting Goods has been an interesting challenge for her. Learning to look at different aspects of design for menswear, as well as taking in on field performance for Baseball and Football, and the different needs that those specific sports have, has expanded her design knowledge, and furthered her passion for design.
